The University of Michigan has some very intricately carved chimeras. A walk through Law Quad and down by Martha Cook building on Tappan, will reveal these to you. Just make sure, you look up. There are many and each is a different face.
I know that chimeras were used decoratively but I’m always wondering why an artist would compose a specific expression. In this case, I’m honestly confused. The dark shadow across the right side of the face almost gives the impression that the sculpture is peering sideways. Its intriguing to me to decipher the little things I see.
